Introduction
The Health Promotion Forum of New Zealand (HPF), University of Otago Wellington Public Health Summer School, and the Centre for Development Studies, University of Auckland are working together to have Paul Hunt, world expert on the right to health, teach two workshops in New Zealand in February 2012.
Professor Paul Hunt, a New Zealander based at Essex University, UK, is one of the world’s leading experts on the right to health. He spent six years as the UN Special Rapporteur (expert) on the Right to Health. You can watch an interview with Paul here.
Paul's papers from his work as UN Human Rights Rapporteur are at Human Rights Centre, University of Essex, Right to Health Unit Archive.
The Auckland workshop will be opened by Anthony Hill (Health and Disability Commissioner) and closed by Donna Leatherby (Chair, Health Promotion Forum Board) and Api Talemaitoga (Chief Advisor Pacific, Ministry of Health). Paul will primarily teach using interactive case studies introduced by highly regarded experts:
- Health and wellbeing of Maori and indigenous children (introduced by Riripeti Haretuku)
- Health and wellbeing of Pacific children (introduced by Teuila Percival)
- Access to healthcare (introduced by Lita Foliaki)
- Climate change (introduced by Rhys Jones)
- Impact of trade agreements (introduced by Barry Coates)
A light lunch, morning and afternoon tea will be provided.
